Grinding and erosion specialist Vollmer UK reports that 2012 turnover was up 35% up on what was a successful 2011, with this success prompting the employment of three more staff and a complete office refurbishment project.

Vollmer UK's managing director, Peter Allen, comments: "Whilst sales of our TCT and HSS circular and bandsaw blade grinding machines have been performing well in the wood making industry, it's the remarkable increase in demand for PCD cutting tools in the metalcutting sector that has been the major contributor to our growth. "As the number of machine shops machining difficult to cut titanium alloys and composite materials increases, the demand upon leading cutting tool manufacturers to provide the specialised tooling increases. As the market leading supplier of erosion and polishing machines for processing PCD tooling, more and more cutting tool manufacturers have turned to us for solutions." This demand has seen sales for its QXD erosion machines quadruple over the last 12 months and, as a company that has built its reputation upon its service and support solutions, Vollmer has employed two service engineers and an apprentice to support this growth. Furthermore, the company's Sandiacre headquarters is undergoing a complete refurbishment. The three-month refurbishment project will increase the stock room size and, consequently, stock levels, create a larger boardroom, provide more workspace for the staff and also see the introduction of a dedicated mailing room. Says Mr Allen: "The opening up of our office space will increase our floorspace, whilst the investment in our facility demonstrates our commitment to the UK market and our commitment to creating an improved environment that will motivate staff and make the workplace a more comfortable place to work."
